Maintenance Essentials for Your Harley-Davidson

Maintenance Essentials for Your Harley-Davidson

Regular motorcycle maintenance is key to keeping your Harley-Davidson safe, reliable, and running strong for years to come. By paying attention to a few essential checks, you can spot small issues early – before they turn into costly repairs or put your safety at risk on the road.

A quick inspection before every ride doesn’t take long, but it can make a huge difference to your riding experience and peace of mind.

What to Check Before Every Ride

Tyres
Check tyre pressure and tread depth. As a general guide, most Harleys run around 36 psi in the front and 40 psi in the rear – always confirm for your specific model. Look for uneven wear or damage that could affect handling.

Oil Levels
Ensure your oil level is within the correct range. For most models, check with the bike warm and resting on the side stand (note: this does not apply to V-Rod and Sportster models).

Brake Pads
Take a quick look at your brake pads. If you can clearly see some “meat” left on the pads, you’re good to go. Thin pads are a sign it’s time for a replacement.

Lights
Do a walk-around check to make sure all lights are working – headlight, brake light, and indicators. Being visible is just as important as seeing where you’re going.

Battery
Pay attention to how your bike starts. If it sounds sluggish or struggles to turn over, your battery may be on its way out – and that’s a fast track to being stranded.

Fuel Level
It sounds obvious, but always double-check you’ve got enough fuel for the ride ahead. Harley rides are better when they’re planned, not interrupted.

Staying on top of these simple checks helps ensure every ride is smooth, safe, and stress-free—so you can focus on enjoying the road, not worrying about what might go wrong.
